Technology is the third-largest contributor to Australia’s GDP at $167 billion a year. Atlassian believes that Sydney has the potential to be one of the world’s leading technology cities and in doing so, will help the industry surpass mining and finance as the nation’s leading sector with the potential to contribute $250 billion by 2030. Attracting world-class talent to Sydney – and retaining it – is a challenge for most companies, particularly when there is an abundance of overseas opportunities for Australians.

“The tech sector currently employs over 850,000 Aussies per year - and that number is growing fast - it’s critical we create a centre of gravity for the tech community. We know that creating a physical home for Australia’s tech community will help attract and develop top talent which we need to compete on the world stage,” said Amy.

The NSW Government has committed to facilitating 250,000 square metres of office space at Tech Central, which stretches several kilometres from Central Station to Camperdown, including South Eveleigh.

Tech Central will provide 50,000 square metres of affordable space for startup and scaleup businesses and is predicted to bring up to 25,000 new jobs to NSW. “We want Tech Central to be known as the epicentre of the Australian technology industry. A place where future generations will come to learn about technology, to hear about the great ideas that were born in this precinct, and to consider a job in this fast-growing and dynamic industry,” said Amy.
